All static dissipative floors need to be looked after and cared for if they are to maintain their ESD properties and characteristics.
Indeed, some non-dissipative floors can have their performance enhanced by using surface treatments, as a temporary measure, to provide Secondary Grounding characteristics; it must be emphasised that any such treatment is not permanent.
A range of very effective dissipative floor maintenance products is available from SSE:
MXF – dissipative floor finish for smooth or hard floors
MXC – dissipative floor cleaner
MXS – stripper to remove floor finishes including insulative coatings
MXP – carpet protector to reduce charging
MXD – floor cleaning disks
It is not uncommon to come across floors which, when laid, had excellent static dissipative characteristics but after a sustained period of an inappropriate cleaning regime the floors become totally insulative.
If floors are not maintained with appropriate finishes and cleaners an insulating, often waxy, residue may build up, completely negating the benefits of a dissipative floor.
