ESD chairs are designed with a conductive path from seat, back rest, frame and foot ring (where fitted) through to the conductive feet or conductive castors to enable grounding through an ESD floor. Available in either conductive vinyl or fabric woven with conductive fibres.
Commonly used in ESD protected areas (EPAs), in conjunction with an ESD floor, for operators to sit on when working with ESD sensitive components.
ESD chairs are considered appropriate for secondary grounding alongside primary grounding methods such as a grounded ESD wrist strap.
ESD castors and feet should be routinely cleaned to maintain a clean grounding contact with the ESD floor.
